Stress Management & Anxiety Control

Stress is a killer. It affects us all.  It is everywhere – in all aspects of our daily lives.  Many people think stress only affects busy people but you can suffer from the adverse effects of stress just as severely when they are brought on by boredom.

You may notice symptoms of stress during busy times at work, when managing your finances, when coping with a challenging relationship or when facing pressure of any kind.

Some people are better able to handle stress than others.  Stress means different things to different people.  And, not all stress is bad. In small doses, stress can help you accomplish tasks and stop you from getting hurt. Our bodies are designed to handle small doses of stress over short periods, but too much stress over a long period can wear you down and make you sick, both mentally and physically.

Stress is the body’s reaction to harmful situations — whether they’re real or perceived – your body reacts the same way.

When you feel threatened, a chemical reaction occurs in your body. This reaction is known as the “fight-or-flight,” or the stress response. During the stress response, your heart begins to race, breathing quickens, muscles tighten and blood pressure rises. This is all to prepare you to fight or run away – neither is an appropriate response for the majority of situations which can induce stress in a modern society.

Stress can affect all aspects of your life, including your emotions, behaviour, ability to concentrate and your physical health. No part of the body is immune, but, because people handle stress differently, symptoms of stress can vary.
