Weight Control

Control Your Weight and Get The Body You Want

A person becomes overweight by taking in more calories over a given period of time than their body needs for maintenance, growth and activity.  If a person takes in more calories than they need, the body converts the excess to fat so that there is a store of ‘fuel’ in times of starvation or famine.

People eat for many emotional reasons; because they are bored, or lonely, or miserable or tired, none of which has anything to do with physical hunger.

It’s important for you to appreciate the difference between eating due to hunger and eating for emotional reasons.  The onset of emotional hunger is sudden, whereas physical hunger develops gradually.  Emotional hunger cannot be satisfied with food; physical hunger can.

If you are eating and eating and still don’t feel satisfied then you don’t need food – you need to change your feelings.

There are a number of options to control weight.  These include:
Willpower – This is unlikely to be sufficient to control weight because it’s a conflict with the subconscious mind.  A person is likely to have strong subconscious reasons for overeating and so simply battling those beliefs is a tough struggle.
Supplements – These programmes work initially because of the dramatic reduction in calorie consumption.  The difficulties come when a person goes back to normal food because there has been no reprogramming of the subconscious mind so the old bad eating habits can creep back.
Calorie Controlled Diets – These also work initially and for similar reasons to the supplements they can also fail once a person resumes ‘normal’ eating patterns.  An added difficulty with diets is that they are based on a feeling of deprivation and are not enjoyable so there is a tendency for people to rebel against them.  Dieting has developed something of a bad name over the years.  Renown hypnotherapist Paul McKenna writes in his book, ‘I Can Make You Thin’:

“Scientific research shows that more than 90 per cent of people who attempt to lose weight by dieting, fail.”

It’s much better, and more effective, to direct your focus on to what you want – a slim, fit, healthy body.  That way you are sending a clear message to your subconscious to find and explore every possible opportunity to move towards your goal.
